Montecristo is one of the most well known brands not just in the Cuban cigar business, but in the luxury goods industry as a whole. The Montecristo No.2 is well known as one of the best cigars ever made and is mentioned in articles and publications worldwide. The weird thing is, it is not the best selling Cuban cigar in the world. In fact, it is not even the best selling Montecristo Cuban cigar. That distinction lies solely with the legendary Montecristo No.4 Cuban cigar.
This shorter smoke is known worldwide for its construction, flavor profile, and aroma. It is hand crafted in Cuba using only the finest Cuban tobaccos for the filler, binder and wrapper. While the blend of Cuban cigars is usually kept under lock and key, it's prudent to assume that the tobaccos for this blend were grown in the legendary Pinar del Rio region, one of the best areas for cigar tobacco in the world. The Cuban Montecristo #4 cigar is rolled into what we would call a petite corona. It is a small yet fierce medium to full bodied cigar. Each puff delivers notes of coffee and cocoa with the smallest hint of vanilla becoming apparent about a quarter of the way through.
One of the reasons behind its popularity, besides it outstanding blend, is its price tag. Due to its smaller size it doesn’t command as high a price as a Montecristo #2 Cuban. However, with its aged tobaccos and flawless construction, this cigar will last far longer than you think.
Understandably, it is difficult for American cigar smokers to enjoy a true Cuban cigar. However, the brands that are available in the US are some of the best in the world. If you are looking for a cigar similar to the Cuban Montecristo #4 in both size and profile, the Warped Maestro del Tiempo, rolled in a similar Cuban fashion, is a fantastic choice. If you do have the chance to visit a real Cuban cigar store, the Montecristo #4 Cuban is always a solid recommendation.
